FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions, answered.
Everything we get asked most often about the program, the coaching, pricing, and what to expect.
It’s how everyone starts at Able Years. You sit down one-on-one with a coach at the studio for about 45 minutes. You talk through what you want to keep being able to do and anything that’s been bothering you, then move through a few simple exercises together so your coach can see how you move. You leave with a plan built around you, and your first week of classes is free. It’s $49, which goes toward your first month when you join, and there’s no pressure to decide that day.
That’s completely fine — and more common than you think. Many of our members haven’t been active in years. Every exercise is adjusted to your level. Your coach meets you exactly where you are.
Your first visit is not a group class — it is a one-on-one Strategy Session with your coach. Your coach sits down with you, asks about your body, your history, any concerns, and what you want to get out of this. Then they run a short movement assessment: grip strength, balance, mobility, how you get up from a chair, how you step up, how you pull and press. It takes about 45 minutes. No rush, no judgment. By the end, your coach knows exactly where you are and writes down exactly how to adjust every class for you. Your first group class is scheduled for a different day — and when you walk in, your coach already has your modifications ready.
The Strategy Session is $49 for founding members ($149 at standard pricing). If you decide to join, the full amount is applied to your first month — so your Strategy Session effectively costs you nothing when you become a member. If you don’t join, you keep your written plan and home routine, and there are no further charges.
Every member starts with a one-on-one Strategy Session — a personal assessment of your grip strength, balance, mobility, and functional ability. Your coach uses the results to document your modifications, limitations, and starting level in your Movement Blueprint. You then attend coached classes twice or three times per week in a consistent group of 8 to 10 people. Every 90 days, you are re-assessed and your results are documented. We can send progress reports to your doctor and family if you would like. You also get unlimited membership pauses, monthly community events, and a coach who calls if you miss a week.
Yes. Our coaches hold advanced certifications specifically in exercise for adults 60 and over. They understand joint replacements, arthritis, osteoporosis, and chronic conditions. Every movement has options, and your coach adjusts in real time based on how you’re feeling that day.
50 minutes. A guided warm-up, then strength, balance, and mobility work — all in one session. In the same class, one person might use a 5-pound weight while another uses 15. Your coach adjusts everything. Conversation is welcome. Laughter is encouraged. You cool down with stretching and have time to talk with your group.
Founding members (the first 40) get a $49 Strategy Session, first week free, and a 12-month rate lock at $219/month (2 classes per week) or $309/month (3 classes per week). The $49 is applied to your first month if you join. After the 40 founding spots fill, standard pricing is $249/month (2x) or $349/month (3x), with a $149 Strategy Session (also applied to your first month if you join). There are no contracts. Cancel anytime.
If your Independence Score doesn’t improve after 90 days of consistent training, we’ll refund every dollar you paid. We call this our 90-Day Promise. We can offer this because in over two decades of research behind our program, adults who train 2–3 times per week consistently improve. We’re that confident it works.
Both. About half of our inquiries come from people looking for themselves, and half come from adult children looking for a parent. If you’re looking for yourself — you want coaches who understand what 65 feels like, a class where nobody rushes you, and people who are glad to see you walk in. If you’re looking for a parent — you want somewhere safe, supervised, social, and actually effective. Somewhere with real coaches who will know them by name. Either way, we’ll take great care of them. Learn more about our program for parents →
At a gym, you walk in and figure it out yourself. At Able Years, you start with a one-on-one Strategy Session where your coach learns your body and documents how to adjust every class for you before you ever join. SilverSneakers classes typically have 20 to 30 people. Your instructor may not know your name, and there’s no progress tracking. At Able Years, classes are capped at 10 people. Your coach knows your name, your body, and your goals. Every 90 days, you’re re-assessed and your results are documented. We send progress reports to your doctor and your family if you’d like. It’s a different level of attention.
Your membership pauses instantly — one text or phone call. Unlimited times. No fee. No paperwork. No questions. When you’re ready to come back, your spot is waiting and your coach picks up where you left off. We call this our Life Happens guarantee.
Comfortable clothes and supportive shoes. That’s it. We provide all the equipment. No special gear, no specific brand — just show up.
Yes, anytime. Any member can bring a guest to any class, no limit, no charge. If you’d like to attend together with a spouse or partner, we can help you find a class time that works for both of you.
